Ingrid James & Louise Denson's Wild Silk Strings Project
Wild Silk Strings Project presents a rich repertoire of songs from the classical and jazz worlds, which has grown out of a long-standing musical collaboration and friendship between Louise Denson and Ingrid James.
Their repertoire acknowledges the jazz tradition while reflecting a European aesthetic in mood, melody and harmony. Their music explores some lesser-known standards from the Jazz and Brazilian Songbooks and includes lush and unique arrangements of some classical repertoire and originals. The songs resonate strongly with their lives and experiences.
“The music of Ingrid and Louise knows no geographic boundaries – from Down Under to New York to the Far North, we ultimately all share one set of needs and values: joy, family, spiritual journey....it’s all here.” Aaron Goldberg, pianist NYC
“There’s something more in this feeling, though. I’m struck by the beauty and richness of the moment that these two women have created. Ingrid and Louise get together, hang out, talk about music, talk about life, make original music...” Greg Gottlieb, Valley Jazz Festival reviewer
The compositions feature an interweaving of the voice with various wind and string instruments, creating a variety of colours and textures.
The 9 piece ensemble brings together top Queensland musicians – Louise Denson (piano), Ingrid James (voice), Andrew Shaw (acoustic bass), Paul Hudson (drums/percussion), Miroslav Bukovsky (flugel/trumpet, Canberra), John Mackey (saxophone, Canberra, in collaboration with ‘3 STRINGS’ – Michael Patterson, Courtenay Lind & Eugenie Costello.
“The music speaks simultaneously to the heart, mind and body...Sit back and enjoy the inventive twists and turns of Denson’s melodies...James’s vocal melodies soar with freedom and confidence bringing a wonderfully individual colour to the sound of the band...” Sandy Evans, saxophonist/composer, OAM
