Kristin Berardi, Sean Foran and Rafael Karlen
Featuring award winning QLD musicians Kristin Berardi, Sean Foran & Rafael Karlen, this new trio encapsulates the spirit of modern music making. Emotive, dynamic and with a brilliant synergy of sound among the three members.
To commemorate the ANZAC legacy and explore the powerful experiences and emotions contained in the correspondence of men & women involved in our military past, Beardi, Foran and Karlen have created a series of new work for piano, voice and saxophone drawing inspiration from ANZAC letters. Exploring themes of hope, fear, separation, loss, love, and conditions of war, the songs use elements of jazz and folk music in an intensely intimate and moving way. Berardi's captivating melodies intertwine with shifting piano harmonies and saxophone tones with effortless grace, blurring the lines between improvisation and composition.
A true collaborative trio, this new music was composed collectively by the three musicians, who have a remarkable stylistic affinity. Their combined experience is formidable, with performances around Europe, UK, Japan, USA, Canada, China and South America. With all three musicians accomplished composers and bandleaders in their own right they also bring a swag of critical acclaim and awards to this new group; from Bell, APRA, Freedman, BCC, and AIR awards plus a string of albums released individually. This new group brings together their combined musical awareness and experience in a stunning way.
Their debut album is out late 2015 on Pinnacles Music.

"The balance between composition and improvisation gives the ear a bit of structure to rely upon while keeping on its toes. Most of all, this music is about as beautiful as it gets (Rafael Karlen - Sweetness of things half-remembered)" - Wondering Sound
"a gifted pianist with abundant ideas and the technique to go with them (Sean Foran)" - Irish Times.
